Tony Ryan

Tony Ryan is Project Manager at PBA FM, a community radio station in the Adelaide suburb of Salisbury South Australia. Following initial teaching and with qualifications from both The University of Sydney and The University of Adelaide, for many years Tony Ryan enjoyed a long career in educational broadcasting, with ABC Radio, with Radio Adelaide at The University of Adelaide, and currently with PBA FM in Adelaide.

In 2005, Tony commenced Learning Works, over 300 weekly radio programs over six years. Although funding ceased at the end of 2010, he continues at PBA FM and is currently working on Park Friends, for broadcast from early April.  Since 1994, and in conjunction with the National Library of Australia, he has been responsible for Conversations, the oral history project of the Australian College of Educators. A Fellow of the College since 1994,  Tony also took on the responsibility for the College Archives project in 2002 – an “encore” career as the Americans say.

He has regularly presented classical music programs on radio, enjoyed a long involvement in community choirs, frequently been MC at the annual dinner to launch Adult Learners Week in South Australia, and contributed for many years to the work of Adult Learning Australia.

As a media consultant, he is currently contributing to the professional development program of the Association of Independent Schools in SA, and also to the early stage of development of the Australian Institute of Male Health and Studies, with a series of interviews with scholars from around the world on aspects of men’s health and wellbeing – see links to podcasts to interviews here – New Male Studies.
